Our friends were in need. Phil Johnson (aka MooNiE the Magnif'Cent) and his wife Genna found out in June of 2000 that one of their three children, 5 year old Sophie, had leukemia. Sophie was a child who brightened rooms. She fought through chemotherapy and other invasive treatments, but still kept her spirit up. Sophie was in remission briefly, but the disease came back. Eventually she became so ill the doctors had to take her off the bone marrow transplant list. Word came back how many medical staff Sophie had charmed, loved, and befriended throughout her ordeal. She passed away on February 5, 2002 at the age of seven. The bravery and determination of this delightful child continues to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

When word of Sophie's illness surfaced, the musicians at the Bristol Renaissance Faire decided to put out a CD for Sophie and her family. A CONCERT FOR A QUEEN was born. Each one of the songs was donated with love and the thought that everyone can enjoy music while helping a noble cause.

A humbling amount of A CONCERT FOR A QUEEN were sold, and we have now come to the bottom of the box. Now is the time for expansion.

We have established a not-for-profit organization for Renaissance performers, artisans and their families who face catastrophic medical situations: RESCU - Renaissance Entertainers Services and Crafters United - found at RESCUfoundation.org. Because of your support of A CONCERT FOR A QUEEN, and lots of Sophie love to think of, we are preparing to offer another CD, similarly structured with an exceptional variety of music from performers you see at Faires. This can continue the bond Sophie brought to our Renaissance community and help out someone else in need.
